Monika Szumilo, PhD, FHEA – Monika is a Lecturer at University College London and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, specializing in practical AI education and machine learning algorithm development. Since 2020, she has been teaching practical AI and conducting machine learning research at Imperial College London and UCL.
With the emergence of generative AI, Monika has become a leading voice in AI education, providing essential knowledge and awareness to university students as well as real estate and hospitality professionals, primarily through her work with the VARi Knowledge Partners team.
Thomas Wiegelmann, PhD, FRICS – Thomas brings over 25 years of comprehensive real estate experience across investment and asset management, consultancy, and corporate finance/M&A. In 2009, he co-founded BLUE Asset Management, a boutique real estate investment firm serving managed accounts and AIFM-regulated structures. Under his leadership, BLUE developed and executed investment strategies for international and domestic clients across the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Built without external funding, BLUE grew into an established privately-owned platform managing over €1.2 billion in AuM by year-end 2018.
In Q1 2019, Schroders Group acquired BLUE as part of its strategic expansion into private assets, with Thomas continuing as Managing Director until October 2024.
Currently serving as Honorary Professor at University College London, Thomas is passionate about lecturing and publishing on negotiation, investment and asset management, and generative AI applications in real estate. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School (Owner/President Management Program) and INSEAD (International Directors Program), holds a PhD from Bond University, and earned a postgraduate degree in real estate economics from the European Business School. As a certified Business Mediator (RICS), Thomas serves on the Harvard Real Estate Alumni Board and advises a global early-stage venture capital firm.
